As we head into the year-end, we are reminded in the mail and in the news that we live in a needy world. But what’s positive is that there’s growing sentiment that doing good is also good for businesses. 70% of workers want to work for a company that supports charities, and 40% of consumers buy products associated with a cause.
So as we go into the Holiday season, it’s the right time to undertake an assessment of how our businesses are doing on Social Responsibility. I offer this checklist and then a solution for you if you need some help figuring out how to do better.
Social Checklist: Is your company doing any of these things?
- Has an annual plan for giving?
- Gives money for the following?
- Disaster Relief
- Scholarships
- Employee matching gifts
- Assistance for employees in crisis
- Charitable Giving Cards
- Has a Company Foundation to implement a wide range of giving options?
- Arranges Volunteering Events that can also serve as leadership and teambuilding service projects?
- Sits on the Board of a particular non-profit?
I would submit that if you only answered yes to one or two of the items above, like many, your company can do more. The challenge however with doing more is the time commitment needed to have a meaningful program. At least that’s what I thought until I met a group who is now one of our clients….OneOC. For those of us living in Orange County, California, we have an easier solution. The non-profits in Orange County know this organization well since OneOC has been helping them run successful non-profits for over 50 years. What’s new is that they just started the Center for Business and Community Partnerships to help businesses maximize their charitable activities in the community. They are a one-stop shop that helps companies connect up with the right charitable organizations, can help you set up a foundation and even provide you with easy access to volunteering opportunities for your employees as well as their families. So yes, you will be doing less but in essence be doing more. It only takes a phone call to get started. Call me and I can tell you more. 714-557-7100 x227
